The Computer Consulting Kit Home Study Course offers many great tips for creating important agreements – like service contracts and partnership arrangement – as well as templates to help you carry out your plans.

So how do you figure out service agreement terms with your customers and clients?

You need to carefully plan IT service agreements in order to help your customers be confident in your abilities.  You have to pre-plan which benefits and prices you will offer to create a compelling case for why prospects should be on IT service agreements.

The Rate Card

A rate card – a simple one-page document that displays typical prices in comparison to service agreement prices – is a compelling way to present benefits to prospects.  Think of a list of at least 6 or so compelling benefits to help you display why someone should sign IT service agreements rather than just pay an hourly rate for your services.  (An exhaustive list of tips is available in the Computer Consulting Kit’s entire package about service contracts!)

You need to be sure you know what you are doing before you go out on a sales call, or you won’t be able to make your case.  Smaller clients will expect service agreements to be priced at a couple hundred dollars per month.  Sweet spot clients will expect $800 - $1,000 per month.  With larger clients, they will probably be expecting $2,500 per month.

What is Your Travelling Distance?

You might be used to dealing with customers and clients within a 10- or 15-mile radius of where you are.  If this is the case, you may have to extend your service area.  Many of your competitors will be willing to drive 45 minutes or an hour.  You can think about how to afford this, including charges for travel time, a van charge or a fixed charge for showing up.  Your competitors may also enforce a minimum, which will range from one hour to a half day.

Small Businesses Need IT Service Agreements

You would need to have 200 or more home networking customers to add up to what you can earn with 10 or 15 long-term small business accounts.  And home networking customers don’t want to hear you can’t give them great service because they only spend $300 per year.

So why not get small business clients that will give you on-going revenue for your business and help you afford to provide great solutions through service agreements?
